Grant Request Guidelines for Hurricane Katrina Relief Funds
The Board of World Mission & Board of Evangelism and Home Missions is promoting and conducting a major hurricane relief effort along the Gulf Coast. The goal is tri-fold: one, to work side by side with those affected to clean up, help rebuild home, and restore hope; two, to unite Moravians from North America through systematic participation in work teams; and three, to work collaboratively in partnership with other denominations. The BWM / BEHM is pleased to be able to offer financial support or grants to Moravian congregations and organizations.
Grants will be given to help mission teams that have a minimum of 6 individuals, with transportation, food, and building expenses. Teams wishing to apply should have approval from their congregation’s elders or other denominational organization. A team leader should take responsibility for completing and returning both the attached Grant Application for Hurricane Katrina Funds, and within one week of the team’s return, the attached Hurricane Katrina Relief Expense Form and receipts.

Grants will be approved by either the Director of the BEHM, or the Executive Director/Director of Administrative Services of the BWM, along with the recommendation of the Director of Volunteer Ministries. Grants are limited to a maximum of $1,000 per request. Congregations and groups are limited to a maximum cap of $3,000 per calendar year.
The BWM /BEHM Disaster Response Team retains the right to be flexible in determining how the guidelines will be applied.
