Helping Haiti

The tragedy in Haiti is staggering, the images unimaginable. Our sisters and brothers there face not only the immediate disaster in the aftermath of this week's eqrthquake, but an overwhelming task of rebuilding a country that had so little in the way of resources to begin with.

The faith community has already mobilized to provide aid, and financial support for their efforts would be welcome.

In addition, many from North Carolina, including its faith communities, have long been at work to improve lives in Haiti. Not only are they faced with the need to increase their efforts exponentially, they must also worry for their representatives who may have been injured or lost in that country. Leaders of Haitian faith communities are also suffering, and we already know that at least one has reportedly been killed. As believers in a merciful God whose children are loved and valued equally, let us hold the Haitian people and all who work to help them in our prayers in these next days and throughout the long process of recovery and rebuilding.
